Particle Physics
Particle physics is a branch of physics that studies the elementary subatomic constituents of matter and radiation, and their interactions. It is the study of the fundamental constituents of matter and the forces of nature, the basic elements of matter and the forces acting among them.  The aim of particle physics is to study the basic building blocks of matter and the forces they exert on each other. It aims to determine the fundamental laws that control the make-up of matter and the physical universe. Particle physics is the study of the fundamental particles of the universe, or, in other words, particle physics is the study of really, really small stuff. Everything around us is made up of these particles, you may say, made up of fundamental building blocks of nature.  In this section of Physics we study the fundamental particles that make up all of matter, and their mutual interaction.

Particle physics is the study of fundamental particles and the forces that guide them. Because many of the fundamental particles only appear during relativistic collisions in particle accelerators, colloquially called "atom smashers," particle physics is also known as "high-energy physics". In particle physics, one is interested in finding out what a neutron or proton is made of. We shoot in a beam of particles from a machine called an accelerator and measure what comes out in a detector. Particle physics has impacted the philosophy of science greatly. Some particle physicists adhere to reductionism, a point of view that has been criticized and defended by philosophers and scientists. Some other physicists may defend the philosophy of holism which has commonly been viewed to be reductionism's opposite.

Particle physics has evolved out of its parent field of nuclear physics and is typically still taught in close association with it. The field is also called high energy physics, because many elementary particles do not occur under ambient conditions on Earth. They can only be created artificially during high energy collisions with other particles in particles accelerators. Scientific research in this area has produced a long list of particles. Modern particle physics research is focused on subatomic particles, including atomic constituents such as electrons, protons, and neutrons (protons and neutrons are actually composite particles called baryons, made of quarks), particles produced by radioactive and scattering processes, such as photons, neutrinos, and muons, as well as a wide range of exotic particles. Strictly speaking, the term particle is a misnomer from classical physics because the dynamics of particle physics are governed by quantum mechanics.
